In Ecosystem from Genius Games we each try to build the most balanced ecosystem.
In this game, over 2 rounds, we are going to draft cards and place them in our ecosystem as optimally as possible.
At the start of each round, each player gets 10 cards. Everyone chooses 1 card and passes the pile of remaining cards to the left, or to the right in the second round.
When everyone has chosen a card, place this card in your tableau. This should always be orthogonal to another card. You will build a tableau over the 2 rounds of 4 high by 5 wide.
Repeat this process with the cards you recieved from your neighbour.
In the game you have several types of cards, these all score in a special way and/or have a special effect.
A bear scores points if it is next to a bee or trout.
A bee if it is adjacent to the meadow. A meadow scores more points according to its size.
The trout scores points with dragonflies and streams. The eagle is fond of rabbits and trout. A rabbit lets you switch two cards. And the dragonfly scores points depending on the size of the adjacent stream. The fox is shy of bears and wolves. And any row or column with a deer will also score points. Whoever has the largest stream and pack of wolves will also score points.
After the two rounds, when the ecosystem is complete, we will run down all these animals and score. Cards that do not score points are flipped over and produce holes in your ecosystem. If you haven't played a species, or you don't get points for your wolves or your stream, you will also get holes. Those holes in your ecosystem yield fewer bonus points depending on their quantity.
Whoever has the most points wins.
Ecosystem is the first game in the series. Ecosystem: Coral Reef and Ecosystem: Savanna Ecosystem: Savanna use the same basic principles but each has its own twist and different ways of scoring.
